After a lifetime of being everything from a Meteorologist to a Farmer Uncle Roy took over an ailing Greengrocery Shop in Moffat in 1990 and it soon developed into Harvest Time - a Wholefoods come Healthfoods come Delicatessen selling all manner of hard-to-find foods - trying to stay one step ahead of the supermarkets by offering all the things that they don't do! Despite developing huge arrays of Fine Foods - and winning an award as "The Best Delicatessen In Scotland" - Uncle Roy could not resist a challenge and set out to develop a  selection of mild Moffat Mustards that he could press on customers that kept asking for Dijon Mustard. As he said - "Why haven't we got a decent British Mild Mustard?"

In 2004 we sold the deli and Uncle Roy's Comestible Concoctions was established. Of course Uncle Roy just can't stop coming up with new ideas - often inspired by lessons learnt in the deli, but also by the urge to produce something different. Consequently our ranges and products keep increasing (now close to 400) – and with 36 GREAT TASTE AWARDS  - we guess he must be doing something right!!

Our products have also made the finals of the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards on three occasions and received many accolades from well known figures and publications. In the Dumfries & Galloway Life - People of The Year Awards 2012 Uncle Roy was named FOOD PRODUCER OF THE YEAR

In 2014 he took on the rest of the world and sent three entries to the WORLD HOT SAUCE AWARDS - and was amazed and delighted when two were judged the be WORLD CHAMPIONS and the other was awarded SECOND. The following year brought another WORLD CHAMPION and also a THIRD place Award ....!

Towards the end of 2016, frustrated by lack of space in our tiny town of Moffat, we moved the production to new larger premises in Ayr - where we hope to be able to develop new ideas and products - and better serve our growing family of customers worldwide. Attached to this site is a large retail outlet, where you can purchase your beloved Uncle Roy's products and add on many other cooking and party products.

In recent years there has been a growing awareness of the importance of the provenance of the food we eat and a consequent emphasis on quality control. Large companies have huge departments ensuring traceability, cleanliness and contamination avoidance – and there are established standards to which they must conform and are measured.

Early in 2007 Uncle Roy’s Comestible Concoctions was the smallest of 15 companies used in a pilot project to develop a Quality Assurance Scheme which could be applied to small producers. We are proud to say that following a successful process and consequent audit we were the first in Britain to be awarded our SALSA Certificate (Small and Local Supplier Approval). We continue to maintain the highest levels of hygiene and all the good working principles ascertaining to SALSA and are regularly audited by our local Environmental Health Authority.

You will not find our products in Supermarkets but they are sold in around 20 countries around the world in Fine Food Stores, Garden Centres, Department Stores, Delicatessens, High Class Butchers, Visitor Attractions, Farm Shops and Kitchen & Baking Supplies Shops and we are proud to supply many well known producers and manufacturers as well as Caterers and Hotels.
